Here's a Bias All Christians Should Have
As a seminarian, the bulk of my reading diet are books related to the Christian faith.
But there’s another genre of books that a secretly love.
Business leadership.
Most of them are predictable and cheesy. But for every cheesy book, there’s three that are genuinely helpful. And recently I've heard a phrase from multiple of these books that I really enjoy.
"We need a bias toward action."
Moving the ball
Far too many leaders, businesses, and institutions struggle to make decisions and move the ball down the field.
Faced with uncertainty or too many options, they fail to make an action plan and follow through. What's needed is firm decision making and a bias toward action. This involves a strong commitment to the belief that doing something is better than doing nothing.
Activity is always preferred to passivity.
A different kind of action
I love this phrase but I’d like to modify it.
We need a bias toward prayerful action.
We need action that is carried on and rooted in prayer. Action that starts before the throne of grace and pushes us out in the world.
We need to seek the Lord’s face, asking for wisdom and guidance in what he desires us to do and in what we are planning to do.
In seeking prayerful action we’ll find ourselves pushed further into the kingdom of God and deeper into the presence of our neighbors.
